What to Expect from Your Senior Portrait Session

No matter which package you choose, your senior portrait session will be personal, relaxed, and fun! I know being in front of the camera can sometimes feel a little nerve-wracking, but I’ll guide you every step of the way to make sure you feel comfortable and confident. My goal is to create an experience that’s enjoyable, stress-free, and truly reflects who you are—so you walk away with images you love and memories of a great time!

1. Pre-Session Consultation

We start the creative process with a quick 10-15 minute telephone conversation to make sure we understand exactly what type of session you need, how much time the session will likely take, who will be in the session, coordinate schedules and ensure that you fully understand our prices and process.

2. In-person Consultation

Next, we’ll have an in person consultation where we will plan all of the details of your portrait session, pay the session fee, and set the date for your session. We will set out a date so I can make sure I understand your preferences, style and story. I'll talk locations, colors, outfits, and any props or themes you'll be bringing to your session. I can go casual, full-glam, or a little bit of both -- whatever makes you YOU!

3. The Session

During your shoot, our top priority over everything else will be to make sure you feel comfortable and confident, and are even having fun, so your true personality can shine through. I'll help you with posing, but I'll also take LOTS of candid moments where your smile and personality can really shine. Whether we go to a park, downtown, or stay here in our studio, I'll personally make sure the setting feels relaxed and enjoyable so you can, too.

4. Personalization and Creativity

High school isn't just about taking classes and getting good grades. It's about your passions, hobbies, dreams, and starting to get a sense of who you are. That's why, before the session, you'll be encouraged to bring meaningful items or clothing with you like sports gear or jerseys, instruments, your favorite pair of sunglasses, or anything else that represents who you are. Our angles, lighting, and backdrops will all be used creatively so you know it all stands out. I meticulously edit each and every photo to get rid of any loose hairs, extra blemishes, weird lighting, or anything else that would make your photos less than stellar.

5. Viewing and Ordering

When your photos are ready, You'll have the chance to view the gallery and narrow it down to the amount of images needed based on the package you've ordered and which heirloom-quality photos you want as portraits. And don't worry -- I will help you narrow it down, too! I'll make sure all of your favorites are edited to our expert specifications, then move on to getting your custom prints, art, and photo albums printed and ready for you, friends and family to enjoy for years to come.

FAQS

What’s the process for booking a session?

It all starts with a friendly 10–15 minute phone chat where we’ll discuss your session goals, timing, participants, and any scheduling needs. We’ll also go over pricing and answer any questions so you feel completely informed.Next, we’ll schedule an in-person planning consultation at the studio to map out every detail—from outfit ideas and location options to posing tips and prep recommendations. We’ll finalize your session date and take care of the session fee. Then, it’s time for the fun part: your personalized portrait session!

How long will my portrait session take?

I wish there was a definitive answer for this question but it really depends on the type of session and how quickly I can get the shots I need. I do attempt to get the session done efficiently so that you can get back to whatever you would rather be doing. ;) I want you to have so much fun, you aren't worried about the clock.

What can I expect once the photo session is complete?

We will schedule an ordering/reveal appointment about 2 weeks after your session date. At this appointment, we will view your edited images (only the best of the best) on our studio's 50 inch TV and decide which images you like best. Once we have narrowed down your selections, we help walk you through which images will work best for you, your family, and your decorating style. We do this so that you feel supported and confident selecting the right images that will mean the most to you for years to come without feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

Do you have any tips for taking better portraits?

Individual Photos:

1. Relax, this should be fun!

2. Wear something flattering with some color and bring a few easy changes of clothing.

3. Accessorize.

4. Wear makeup to your liking for a date night.

5. Don’t look directly at the lens of the camera, look at the top of it or just to the side (avoids red eye especially if you have blue or green eyes).

6. Never face shoulders straight on with the camera (this looks awkward and not flattering to anyone).

7. Make small movements in all directions with the head and body - you never know which angle will look the best and catch the best light.

Group Tips:

1. Keep your eyes on the photographer unless instructed otherwise, try not to be distracted - the faster we can get everyone looking together, the quicker the photo session will be and it will result in better quality photos (turning heads can create blur).

2. Try to wear matching or coordinating colors for photos to be more cohesive.

3. Parents look at the photographer no matter what your child does unless asked by the photographer because inevitably by the time the child looks at the photographer, the parents are looking at the child.
